iLeague.

Friday, 26 February 2010

Throughout the start of the year, there has been a constant buzz for the inter-class soccer competition between the iSpark classes, also know as iLeague. For football fanatics like me, we have been anticipating it and we were not to be disappointed as around a week ago, it kicked off and we were put against 1i4, one of the the stronger class out of the secondary ones.

Prior to the match, we had many problems. Firstly was the problem of the team, on that day itself, I could safely say that I was not sure if we could even play. We had 10 players in the team, 3 of them did not bring their PE attire, the expected attire for the competition, 2 of our first team players fell sick, and another had to rush off after class for either 3rd language or co-curricular activity. We were in deep trouble, thankfully, with our class spirit, we endured these tough times and we really have people like Fuyuan to thank. Even though he was sick and knew he could not play, expecting cases of people not turning up with PE attire, both him and me brought an extra set of clothes to lend our classmates and we barely managed to get a team in time.

Together, the five of us set out to play against 1i4. It was one tough game and we deserved to lose as much as I did not want to admit it. 1i4 was obviously superior, if stats were calculated, other than a few shots taken by me and a few others, it was all 1i4. Waves and waves of attack arrived from them as we threw our bodies on the line to attempt to defend. Soon, as the match was coming to end, our defenders tired, they attacked more furiously. As I stopped running due to fatigue, they scored a goal in the last minute. I was frustrated and the fact that I could not have done anything. The ball slowly trickled into the net as 1i4 celebrated what was the winning goal. I was gravely disappointed.

In my point of view, there was an obvious reliance on a few of the players as some sat there and did nothing. All I could say was what is gone is gone, I am hoping for the next match to be easier to gain back our confidence. I sincerely hope that we would do well, and all of us to do our best.
